SOSS #127 - V is for Valentine TONI

Time for another Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge. Come share your Valentine/love/love sucks cards with us! Snark is optional although we love it.

My card is for my partner, who both can be a dumbass and has a cute ass. Not as pert as when we first met but I love him anyway. LOL. My card is one layer with masking. I decided to add the heart after the fact, as usual, and yes, I'm nuts. I added some visual texture to the heart by using a piece of denim and Copic 0. The sentiment is printed on my Brother label maker. Maybe I should get a fancier one that has more fonts and sizes.

Whimsy J4 - Thankful Hearts

I'm wrapping up my first month at Whimsy Stamps using the January release Speckled Heart Stencil again. I love that it has the border around the heart.  It was so easy to use multiple Distress Oxide colors without masking!

After I sponged, I die cut the Thanks die using one of my acrylic pour pulls.

It coordinates beautifully with the DO purples, don't you think?

Lastly I glued the Thanks diecut down and then added a bit of bling with the Sparkletz Crystal Hearts. Isn't it cool how they change color depending on the light reflection?

Cards in Envy Love Me or Love My Pet

If you know me or have been following me for a while, you know I love cats and will eventually reach crazy cat lady status. So I am super excited that our new Cards in Envy Challenge focuses on pets and love. Woo hoo!

Of course, mine includes cats which I kept very simple, using Zig watercolor markers to color them. I paired it with a scalloped reveal portion at the bottom using a blue similar to her dress or did I start with the reveal blue and make her dress similar? Either way, I love the results.

Love Owlays

Ack! Isn’t that Aall and Create Owl You Need is Love owl just the cutest? I would love to cuddle him but I’m a little afraid of owls. They’re so beaky plus one nearly collided with me as a child. Chomp chomp!

I started by diecutting the Lawn Fawn Polka Hearts Backdrop with kraft cardstock and adhering it to a white base. Next I diecut the MFT Hearts Entwined Die from Doodlebug Design Cream and Sugar 6x6 paper. I wanted the sentiment to stand and owl to stand out so I laid down a strip of vellum. Not that the green LOVE needed more standing out. That’s leftover from my recent monkey card.

I used another leftover LOVE in white beneath the green. And, of course, I replaced the O with the owl which is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copics. I took it a step further by embossing the sentiment and laying it over the LOVE. I love that there are lots of layers but not a lot of visual mayhem going on.

ATCAS #151 - Friends

It's time for the next Addicted to CAS challenge where the inspiration word is "Friends."  Sooooo many possibilities with this one!

My card features two critter buddies getting cozy with some hot coffee on a cold winter's day. I colored them up with Zig watercolor markers. I particularly love the shading around the log. So pretty!

LIM Guest Designer

I'm so excited to be guest designing for the current Less is More #387 Sketch Challenge!  I hope you'll play along!

I don't use sketches often as I sometimes find it difficult to think outside the box with them. It took me a while to come up with this design but I loves it. I loves it to death!

It's a one layer card with just some simple stamping, minimal coloring and lots of Wink of Stella. I can see this working as a graduation card, birthday, congrats, etc. I love cards that are multi-purpose for those last-minute card needs.

Warm Yeti Hugs

I finally got my hands on the Catherine Pooler mini ink set and love them. They have amazing coverage (it may look spotty when you first stamp but it magically evens out). This card is a great way to test out the colors and it’s fun and pretty!

I lightly penciled a grid onto my card front then stamped the Puffy Holiday Greetings sentiment using a lot of colors. I did try using my MISTI but I don’t have the big one so it was a pain. My eyes and the grid worked just fine.

Aren’t those colorful speech bubbles fabulous?! Notice this one that’s a bit more muted? That is an Ancient Page ink I’ve had in my stash for around 15 years. It behaves very similarly to the CPs.

So background done. Now onto coloring up the image from Mama Elephant Me and My Yeti with Copics. He’s so cute! I did think he go lost on the background so added the vellum heart that I lightly sponged with Distress Oxide Worn Lipstick on the back.

Swinging By

I have a very special little boy in mind for this card. He’s such a little monkey, it’s perfect for him!

To start the card I diecut the Mama Elephant Tri Window Coverplate in a happy green then used leftover pieces of Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Spring 6x6 Paper behind the windows. I next stamped the Sunny Studio Love Monkey images using Memento Tuxedo Black and colored them with Copics.

This is a case where I almost wished I had bought the coordinating dies as they cut out some of the inner bits. I did that by hand using an Exacto knife. And it looks it. LOL.

I adhered the images down, popping up the swinging monkey with a bit of foam tape so he’s coming at you a bit.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment onto black cardstock using Versamark and embossed using Ranger Detail Fine White Embossing Powder. I love how it looks snipped apart and swinging along with those frisky monkeys.

Whimsy J3 - You're Killer!

Check out this fab killer whale from the Whimsy Stamps January release set Whale of a Time!

I'm particularly fond of orcas as I live in the Seattle area and can see them occasionally in the Sound from the office. They're sort of like dolphins but more bitey so that's quite close enough. LOL.

I started my card by sponging the base using Distress Oxides which I had masked to separate the ocean from the sunset. I brushed the blue with water to create water ripple streaks then spattered with water.

Can you see how the whale is poking up out of the water?  I created that aperture using one of the ovals from WS Quick Strips. I also popped up the card with foam tape on the bottom half to give a bit more dimension and perhaps to make it seem like the water is receding.

I waited until the DOs were thoroughly dry before stamping the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossing with Ranger White Super Fine Detail Embossing Powder.  Did you notice the whale tail incorporated into a lot of the set sentiments?!

I did use quite a few Copics to get the shading as I wanted it on the whale.  I find that the gray tones have quite a leap shade-wise between numbers (for instance, N3 to N5) so I tend to use the full range.

SOSS #126 - B is for Books

Ready for our first Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge of 2019?! The inspiration word is "books." Maybe you've got a favorite book, quote, movie based on a book (don't you dare!), or some such. And remember that snark is optional although we love it.

Now I'm an avid reader and have been since I was a child.  I can remember sneaking books from elementary school so I could read them at home.  I guess this was before we were allowed to check them out from the library? Anyway, my love of books is intense and one of  my absolute favorite activities.  Grab a book, or my Kindle nowadays, a throw, a cat and I'm good to go for hours. Reality can suck it.
