Winter Cloches

I am just now getting around to putting away the bits that made up these so that hopefully I will remember I have a few leftovers and can make a couple for 2018. Let's not bet on that tho!

  • The blue on the second cloches was achieved by dripping Copic pale blue Various Ink on the back half of the dome.
  • The interior is hot-glued to a base of thick white cardstock before being hot-glued in place in the cloche.
  • The snow was added to the dome, upside down, then the base was added so there's no snow spillage.  Use the hot-glue to seal the top to the bottom of the cloche or else it will eventually open (ask me how I know).
  • You can place a ribbon or strip of paper etc around the rim of the pedestal for further deco.  I intend to . . . once I find the perfect whatever it might be.

The Details:  The cloches and the the tree die on the one in the back are from PTI.  The white deer is Tim Holtz. The trees and brown deer are ones I got from Michaels. The Seattle skyline is Savvy. The snow is from Hobby Lobby???

Best is Yeti

A goodbye card for a coworker who is moving back to Chicago after deciding Seattle isn't the place for her.  I wonder why? Could it be the rain? The unexpected November snow?  The stand-offish people? Did I say the rain already?  LOL.

Seattle Christmas and New Year

I bought this a new product to try over the weekend--molding paste by Art C.  Have you heard of it?  It's thinner than my regular embossing paste by Dreamweaver and is slightly tacky.  I've come to the conclusion it reminds of diluted caulk.

I spread it over my star embossing folder and set it aside to dry.  I'm guessing that took about 15 minutes but I was multitasking.  I then cut out the Seattle skyline twice, once in silver cardstock and again in black to serve as the offset shadow.  I stamped the sentiment before gluing the two skylines together.  I popped up the silver glitter paper star.  Don't you love all the different metallic elements?

My plan is to use this card as a Christmas and Happy New Year card. I need to keep a look out for a good New Year's sentiment.

The Details:  Impress die, Memory Box Stars Starring Nights stencil, Art C silver molding paste, Recollections white and black 110 Lb cardstock and glitter cardstock, mystery silver cardstock, Momenta star die

Xmas Seattle Tag

Did you all have a good holiday?  I am on the last day of a 6-day weekend.  Today is too cold to finish up my landscaping clean up so I've been hunkered down making holiday cards.  Darn, right?

Another Seattle-specific Christmas card coming at ya.  I love the stamps in this set!  I also love that I got to use up a tiny bit of stash ribbon.  Sweet.

The Details:  Lawn Fawn Tag die, Impress stamps, VersaMagic Sea Breeze, Distress Ink Picked Raspberry, Memento London Fog, Sizzix embossing folder, Flavours Gourmet Smoked Sea Salt 12 Pt coverstock, Recollections white 110 lb. cardstock

Rustic Seattle Holiday

Way simple card today.  I love this set from Impress, a local stamp shop.  So many perfect elements to make uniquely Seattle holiday cards.  Wow, now that I think about it, when was the last time I used stamps from one set only?   The card is self-explanatory; the snow was created by flicking the pigment ink.

The Details:  Impress holiday stamps, Colorbox white pigment ink, Pretty Pink Posh 4mm sequins, PTI kraft cardstock base

Now I'm CASing Pamela

Pamela is another card maker whose work I have admired for a while.  In CASing her design below, I gave it a twist with elements from my city.  I used Distress Inks as watercolors for the stamped image and background--really dig how that rainbow umbrella turned out.  Note that I mixed colors quite a bit for the dark blue and violet shades; I do love the easy mixability of the inks.  I did a one layer treatment of the dies which I think is my first time doing that.  It's a cool effect but fussy.

I didn't have a Happy Birthday that I thought worked as well as the Mama Elephant sentiment so ME on the outside and "hope it's a day filled with cake, etc." on the inside.  Oh, dang, it just occurred to me I could have stamped the inside sentiment in rainbow colors.  Next time!

The Details:  Mama Elephant Up & Away stamps, Versamark Onyx Black, Memory Box cityscape die, Savvy Stamps Space Needle die, Le Plume #22 for the windows, Distress Inks (Salty Ocean, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry, Fired Brick, Faded Jeans, Seedless Preserves, Tumbled Glass), Tim Holtz watercolor paper, PTI white and gray card stock, Pop Tone Black Licorice card stock, Fiskars sentiment inside

Psychedelic Watercolor Seattle

I bought a Space Needle die from Savvy dies while my sister was visiting last month and thought it would work well for the watercoloring impressed dies tutorial from class.  I partially impressed the Needle then impressed a Memory Box Cityscape Nightline die over it.  Turned out perfectly after a couple of trial runs.

I went over the buildings a few times to get a look I was satisfied with.  A single color per building seemed drab so I mixed it up more to look like everything bled into each other.  Well, I guess it did that anyway but I helped it along quite a bit.

The sentiment is also from my sister's visit.  I got both at Impress stamp shop down in Tukwila.  The only time I go down that way is when I'm airporting it but it would be worth an exclusive visit.

Oh, right.  The card on the bottom was my original one-layer intent but the sentiment seemed way too bold so I mounted it on black cardstock to tie it all together.  Better!

The Details:  Tim Holtz watercolor paper and distress inks, Versamark black onyx, Savvy Space Needle die, Memory Box Cityscape Nightline die, Impress sentiment, Pop Tone black licorice cardstock

Flying By to Say Happy Birthday

I cannot believe I forgot to post this card.  Remember my Persian New Year's card?  March 21, the first day of Spring and the Persian New Year, also happens to be my partner's birthday.  He works on helicopters which I did not have but a plane is close enough.  It's also okay that it's a jet versus a whatchamacallit plane that would actually be trailing a banner.  Picky, picky!  ;-)

The Details:  PTI white cardstock, designer paper scraps, Darice embossing folder, Memory Box cityscape die, MFT airplane die, Lawn Fawn flying by sentiment, Hero Arts Operation Write Home interior sentiment, Memento Tuxedo Black, chipboard
