Poinsettia Grunge

You know that thing where you start a card with an idea in your head but next thing you know it heads in a totally different direction.  Truth.

I grabbed the wrong brush for the background so it went from my envisioned salvaged patina to cobalt blue. Behold:  my Dr. Who inspired Christmas card. LOL.

Simon Says Stamp - Drop the Mic

I received the Simon Says Stamp Drop the Mic stamp set as part of my Golden Ticket package this month.  Fun, right?  Never fear as it really does stamp beautifully using a MISTI but I wanted a grungy advertisement look so applied ink haphazardly.

I paired it with a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Big Old Birthday set to create a fun masculine birthday card.  Finally, a card cool enough for my nephew who is turning 20? 21?   I'll miss the cute cards I used to make him.

SOSS #242 - R for Retro

We're getting retro at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge.  I used a snarky sentiment from a set designed by my DT sistah Chris Dring.  So amazing and so so true!

I adhered some Tim Holtz Idea-ology Botanical Collage Paper onto an aqua blue cardstock panel then sponged a bit of Distress Oxide Vintage Photo along the edges.

I roughed up the edges and sponged the same ink onto the Stamplorations Retro Fashionistas ATC Ephemera panel that I colored up with Copics.

52 Card Pickup ATC - Set 1

Insert satisfied sigh.  My first of the 52 ATC set are done . . . I think.  I didn't start out with a plan for these beyond there being 52 of them so I thought I would pick up one of the Tim Holtz Tiny Sentiment Strip Sticker books to help me along.

The sentiments are a bit too sappy--not quite the word--hmm.  Essentially they're too touchy feely positive trite for me so I'm using some as they are but also some with Toni edits.

All/Most Cards:
Liquitex Gesso
Distress Oxides, Distress Inks, Ranger Archival Ink, Stazon Jet Black and Red, Ranger Gold embossing powder

SOSS - #151 Headache

And we're baaaaack! Did you miss us?  Of course, you did!

The first Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge for 2020 is #151 H for Headache.

I went to town on my background using lots of stencils, lots of ink and a little grunge paste. Getting messy is fun!

I colored the Katzelkraft Booly Dog with a really bright Zig pink. That dog's expression kills me, it's so fun and cute!

Ostrich in . . . Space

I was so excited to be contacted by a Tim Holtz rep to ask if I would like to try out their new Hipster dies. Umm, yes, please!

I started the card with the idea of a really bright and colorful summery background with the ostrich popping its head into the card. As I was working, I was reminded of nebulas so added a few stars and a dark card base to emphasize outerspace. THEN, it occurred to me it would be fun to give her a space helmet. I made that with a simple circle die, a Sharpie and transparency film. Her glasses are mounted on top of that, of course. LOL!

'Sup?

Dude, this card cracks me up! The goat is hilarious: (in a goat's voice) Suuuuuuup?  LOL!

Some girlfriends and I went out to the peninsula Sunday to explore a new-to-us shop, Doodlebugs, in Sequim. It is a hidden gem. The owner was lovely and gave us an impromptu demo on Distress Crayons. I couldn't resist snatching up some supplies. If you happen to be over that way, you can catch the demo this Saturday and perhaps take one of their classes in the future. We'll definitely be visiting again, won't we, Amy and Tonya?

Stamplorations CAS February Challenge!!

Hey, all, are you ready for another fun Stamplorations CAS challenge?  This month as usual it's anything goes but with the optional twist of RED.

I love me some red, don't you?  As Valentine's Day will soon be here I thought of hearts then Queen of Hearts. I love her imperious pointing--Off with her Head!   I thought the Art Is sentiment matched her personality.  LOL.  Of course, once I started thinking of art, I recalled a gingerbread house I saw over the holidays which someone had worked up as Starry Night by van Gogh which made me think of the painting itself and then a gelli print I had done a while back with a great swirl factor.  Welcome to my brain!

So fairly straight forward stamping with the addition of embossing the queen so she would really pop.  I inset all of the diecuts to keep it simple but also to allow me to save a bit of the swirl print for later.  Yes, I am a gelli print hoarder!

I do hope you'll join in the fun this month!  You can enter up to 3 times and don't have to use Stamplorations products but it would be wonderful if you did!

The Details:  Simon Says stitched rectangle dies, Memento Luxe Love Letter, VersaFine Onyx Black, Stamplorations Queen of Hearts and Art Is, Liquitex Basics acrylic paints, gelli plate, Neenah 110lb solar white, Recollections 110lb white cardstock base

Stencils in Mixed Media

This month at Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media we'd like to see you use a stencil somewhere on what you make.  You could layer them to give greater depth to another stencil or add texture as I've done here.  The sky's the limit!

For my cards, I followed a Gelli plate technique video by Barbara Gray.  My result was nothing like hers but, hey, that makes it uniquely my own.  I laid down my paints in the order she prescribes but I'm using the lift print from layer 3 for this card (you'll see my layer 4 results in a moment).  This is just upcycled used printer paper that I adhered to 80lb cardstock.  I then placed the trellis (first) stencil back down and randomly spread transparent texture paste down--check the upper right corner, eg.  I struggled a bit with the sentiment, finally deciding to go simple with a navy ink so the fabulous background wouldn't get lost.

I'm entering Card 1 in Seize the Birthday Anything Goes and the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #20 Time Flies

For the second card (really the first card if you watch the video), I used the 4th layer result.  The colors are duller but there's a LOT of shimmer since I used silver acrylic for the last layer.  I liked the grunge effect so made a bit of she art out of it with new Ranger stamps.  So two totally different cards and looks from my Gelli plate experiment.  Love!

I'm entering Card 2 in Mixed Media Card Challenge #19 Beginnings and Simon Says Wednesday Something New

The Details:  Cameo-cut trellis stencil, PTI Happy Hexagons sentiment, Hero Arts Shadow Navy, Ranger Transparent Gloss Texture Paste

Ranger Handwritten Sentiments and Clearly All the Gals, Mama Elephant Arctic Penguins, Simon Says stitched rectangle die, Recollections 110lb white and black cardstock,  Versamark, Hampton Art clear embossing powder, Stampendous black embossing powder,  Stazon Blazing Red, Versafine Onyx Black

Acrylics:  Phthalo Blue, Light Blue, Burnt Umber, Gelli Plate, Crafters Workshop Peacock Feathers stencil, PTI white cardstock base

Flame On

Here's a birthday card for my BIL.   It took on a life of its own.  I wanted to try that technique where you ink part of the embossing folder.  That's the orange part.  Sounds like a great idea but it wasn't at all what I was expecting.  The flames were recessed.  I tried it again inking the opposite section and the flames seemed odd--hard to explain odd.  I was just going to toss it away then decided to run a stamp pad over the debossed part.  That turned out cool.  Like graffiti sorta kinda.  I feel so hip.

Update:  I forgot to mention on the inside I diecut another t-shirt and stamped happy birthday with enough room for personalization and signatures.  Also, my BIL loved the card.

The Details:  MFT t-shirt die and sentiment, PTI white card stock, Canson Effects paper in Cyber Gray, Martha Stewart corner rounder, Stazon, Memento Dandelion, Tangelo, Love Letter and Tuxedo Black, Darice embossing folder

I'm entering this in Cardz 4 Guyz #1 Happy Birthday, Simon Says Wednesday Emboss It, Totally Gorjuss #218 Manly, Seize the Birthday with coloring topping, and Dream Valley Challenges #73 Boys/Men.
